Flowers in the Winter…Say what?!?!

I couldn’t help myself, but give a nod to Matthew Perry this week. While I was still pretty young when the show debuted, it still taught me so much about friendship and love. Thank you Chandler and Friends! So with that being said, I hope you are ready to do a happy dance just like him because what I am about to tell you might blow your mind! 🤯 Are you ready?!?!

🌹FLOWERS DURING THE DARK DAYS OF WINTER ARE POSSIBLE!!!! 🎉

How?! By a process called forcing. I’m hosting a workshop to teach you how to do it and I’ll also explain a bit more about what forcing is below.

Boxes & Blooms Amaryllis Workshop: November 10, 6pm 〰️

Sample of Forcing Workshop Project

Attend my Boxes & Blooms Bulb Forcing Workshop on Friday, November 10 at 6pm!

In collaboration with AR Workshop Mechanicsville, you'll create a festive wooden planter box and learn the basics for coaxing flowers to bloom indoors during the winter.

What is Forcing?

Forcing is the process of tricking bulbs into blooming during times when they naturally do not bloom. This is most often done by cooling the bulbs in a refrigerator and then potting them up and allowing them to grow in an indoor warm environment. Some bulbs force better than others and even within the same species, some varietals work better than others. You are probably most familiar with amaryllis bulbs that are often grown for their beautiful, red Christmas blooms. This is what we will be potting up in the workshop. Amaryllis are tropical plants and do not naturally bloom in the Northern Hemisphere during the winter, but with a little coaxing, we can trick them into thinking our warm homes are the tropical environment they need to thrive. I am now offering specialty, premium Amaryllis, and paperwhite bulb gardens in my shop. 👇Below is a picture that shows you the progression of bulb to flower for an Amaryllis. Last winter, I found them incredibly engaging and fun to watch grow. The kids loved watching and measuring daily too!

Holiday Bulb Gardens that WOW!

My first-ever product offering will be Amaryllis and Paperwhite Bulb Gardens. I’m offering 3 color choices for these tabletop gardens online with additional colors available as single bulbs orders which I can pot for you, by request, or they will be available at my upcoming Holiday Bazaar Vendor Show.

I’ve also created a PDF Instruction Guide on how to assemble and care for your bulbs, and have included bonus instructions on how to save these bulbs to reuse year after year. This PDF is my FREE gift for anyone who makes an Amaryllis or Paperwhite purchase or attends one of my workshops.

Bulb Gardens are Incredibly Giftable

Bulb Gardens make great gifts. They appeal to so many of the favorite people in our lives (mothers, grandmothers, teachers, bosses, inlaws, friends, anyone really). They are such a lovely gift because they bring beauty and nature’s energy into the home during the coldest, darkest point of the year. They add to your holiday decor in a way that silk florals just can’t do. Plants naturally bring about peace and tranquility…something we wish for all of our loved ones during this special time of year. Some of the items in my store can be shipped, and others aren’t set up that way. That being said, I can probably ship almost anything you see. I just don’t want to overcharge or undercharge anyone. Please email me about shipping something if the option isn’t given to you at checkout. My email is nicole@breemarflowerfarm.com and I am more than happy to work with you on getting the perfect gift anywhere it needs to go. One of the easy-to-ship items is listed below.
