Giftable Gardening Tools & Gear

Happy Happy Black Friday, Flower Friends! I hope this post finds you relaxed and with a full heart and belly! We celebrated Thanksgiving cozied up by the fire watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (something I have refused to miss ever since I was a little girl) while I roasted the turkey and waited anxiously to see if my homemade cranberry sauce set. IT DID!🎉 Then we went to my mom’s house and feasted upon all the traditional foods and my mom’s chocolate chess pie. My girls were blessed to enjoy the company of their 92-year-old great-grandmother, three of their 5 grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. My mom has hosted almost every Thanksgiving during my lifetime which is special in and of itself.

Now onto what this blog post is really about….my favorite giftable gardening tools and gear! Side Note: These are all my personal opinions. I don’t make any money from recommending these items. They also aren’t in any particular order. Anything underlined is a direct link to the product.

1. PowerPlanter Augers

Every gardener you know needs an auger in their life. This is a time-saving, body ache preventer! I have 3 different augers. You simply attach the auger to a hammer drill (I highly recommend one with a handle) like you would a drill bit. Then you can drill holes quickly and precisely. I like the Garden Answer Laura’s Version and the gallon size the best. The tall Laura’s version is probably all the average home gardener needs as you can ream out larger holes easily with it. I planted my entire front garden bed packed full of annuals in like 30 minutes this past Spring. As an added bonus, their products are American-made. 💓❤💙

2. Greenstalk Gardens

These growing towers are perfect for small spaces. You can pack a TON of veggies, fruits, or flowers in one of these babies. You simply add water to the top and it filters down to the rest of your plants. They even have an irrigation set-up now which is perfect for me who is admittedly terrible at keeping up with watering. Use quality potting mix in these for the most success. They come in an array of colors and two sizes. I have one of the standard size and one of the leaf size as pictured here. I have mine on wheels so I can easily move them around my patio. Greenstalk also has accessories for extending your growing season with frost cloth and insect barriers, something I plan to invest in, particularly for Japanese Beetle Season.

🎉EVERYTHING ON THEIR SITE IS ON SALE!

3. Plant It and Forget It Bulb Garden Kits

These kits are specialty bulbs that when planted in mass together will give the most breathtaking Spring show. Bulbs can be planted now and stored in the garage or under a pile of leaves all winter until Spring or keep them in their packaging in a beer/wine fridge away from fruits and vegetables to be planted in the Spring. These bulbs are not pre-cooled so they need to go through a cold period using one of the above methods. IT IS SO EASY THOUGH! I watered mine once last winter and they were absolutely beautiful this Spring! And as an added bonus, I’m here to help you along the way. I’ve taken the guesswork out of your porch container gardens with unique varieties that you can’t find in the big box stores. These kits can be shipped across the country as well.

4. Duluth Flexpedition Pants

These pants are my go-to three-season gardening pants that probably could be used all four seasons if you prefer wearing pants in the summer. I’ve linked the women’s pants above, but they also come in men’s sizes too. They have a lined and unlined version. These pants are durable and don’t hold dirt like cotton will so it’s easy to dust the dirt off before coming indoors. And they stay dry which is so important when you're often in wet environments outside. I recommend getting on their email list for sales throughout the year and if you’re lucky enough to have a store near you, don’t skip out on their back room clearance. I scored the highly sought-after house plant PJS in the clearance section last year which was a total win!

5. Sunshade Hats with Ponytail Hole

I have this hat in 2 colors! I wear it every day. I love that there is a hole for my ponytail and it keeps the sun out of my eyes. My girls have this same hat too if you like to twin with your kiddos. The same hat is available from a bunch of sellers so just choose the one with the cheapest price and make sure it’s the correct size. I’ve linked the Black Friday Sale above, but note that Amazon prices fluctuate constantly. These come individually or in packs. An inexpensive gift with big impact.

6. Burpee Stainless Steel Scoop

This is one of my most used tools. I really love the size of this scoop. It makes quick and tidy work of amending holes with compost and filling pots with soil. I use it to mix water into dry bagged soil and all kinds of other things. I tend to be hard on tools so it’s nice that it has a 10-year warranty too. I’d imagine that the entire line of Burpee tools holds up to the same quality as this scoop. Burpee also has gift cards. I like their starter plants and seeds.

7. Gorilla Cart Wagon

This cart is 100% better than a wheelbarrow. I have the larger version because it can be attached to my lawn mower and towed if I choose. The smaller capacity one doesn’t have this option. I can fit 6-8 bags of mulch in here no problem. It saves the heavy lifting and saves so much time. I’ve also hauled loose mulch or garden debris and dumped it very easily with the dumping feature. I use this cart almost daily when I am outside working. You can purchase it from all the big box stores.

💲 10% off at Rural King if you have one near you. Otherwise, it’s not a deal to ship.

8. Sipsey Wilder Gardening Toolbelt

I was looking at a much more expensive gardening-specific tool belt when I came across this one in a magazine. It couldn’t be more perfect and you can’t beat the price and all the amazing patterns these come in. Trust me…it was hard to choose. They are a women-owned, eco-conscious small business that is also size-inclusive. I am considered plus-sized and the regular size of the tool belt fits me fine, but they also over extenders which I think is absolutely great. In the future, I plan on buying hats and other fun items that they have. I also plan on ordering some Christmas gifts for a few quirky people on my list too! This site isn’t just for gardeners. They have hats, wallets, and bags of all kinds!

9. Hoselink Retractable Garden Hose

I delayed purchasing this garden hose for the longest time because of the price, but since I got my first one, I’ve already purchased my second! Let me tell you…this thing is a game-changer! I absolutely love this hose reel. No more fighting with tangled hoses. No more wrangling a hose and putting it away before cutting the grass. It saves so much time, is aesthetically pleasing, keeps things tidy, and makes watering chores much easier.

10. Tempest Weather Station

My husband, Michael, gave me this weather station 2 Christmases ago and I cried. I thought it was an incredibly thoughtful gift. It is perfect for gardeners because it gives you data from your specific microclimate. You can compare data from year to year to help you determine the best planting times, and it’s overall just really fun to use. The device and interface are simple to use and the station utilizes solar power and a WiFi bridge to run. I particularly love that it calculates rainfall, but there is no cup to keep dumped. Tempest also integrates Alexa, Rachio Irrigation systems, and other smart home devices.
